For those of you looking to set up a business online and sell products, there are many options, but for the purpose of this post, I want to focus on WordPress and Woocommerce.

All you need is a server and domain, then from there install WordPress.  WordPress is a powerful content management system, originally used for setting up blogs.  But now it has grown to do so much more.  By simply adding Woocommerce, a free WordPress plugin, you add the functionality of changing your website into a full-on e-commerce platform.

What types of functionality are included?

  • Payments
  • Shipping
  • Inventory
  • Reporting
  • Marketing
  • Tax

That’s basically all you need to set up a shop online.  Simply go to the plugins tab, search “Woocommerce” and install it onto your WordPress website.  In addition, there are countless themes to give you that professional look that fits your business’ needs and many other extensions to add even more functionality to your online shop.

We will go into a few topics in the coming weeks, but for now I wanted to introduce you to Woocommerce.  Meet Woocommerce here.
